For over 25 years, the non-profit St. Johns Housing Partnership (SJHP) has been working to ensure every person has a safe, clean, affordable place to live. Housing is the reason SJHP exists and the reason they show up every single day. SJHP knows that you cannot build a life without a healthy, energy efficient, affordable home. Learn more about weatherization:

What is Weatherization?

Weatherization is the process of improving a home’s energy efficiency by protecting it from outside elements like moisture, heat, wind, and sun exposure.

What are the Benefits of Weatherization?

  • Reduced Energy Bills: Simple measures can lower your energy costs.
  • Health: Reduced asthma and related medical costs and improved respiratory health.
  • Improved Air Quality: Enhances indoor air quality, benefiting health.
  • Comfort: Helps maintain a balanced indoor temperature.
  • Humidity Control: Reduces excess humidity
  • Support for Low-Income Families: Helps reduce the financial burden of energy costs.

Who is eligible for the St. Johns Housing Partnership No-Cost Program?

Eligibility in St. Johns and Clay Counties involves an application to verify home ownership and income. Priority is given to:

  • Elderly individuals
  • Families with disabilities or children
  • Veterans
  • High-energy users
  • Households with income at or below 200% of poverty guidelines

If my application is approved, what’s next?

After confirming eligibility, a SJHP Weatherization auditor conducts an “Energy Audit,” assessing energy use through various tests, including air infiltration analysis and equipment inspections.

What are some of the types of home weatherization assistance available to me?

Depending on diagnostic results and funding, assistance may include:

  • Air sealing (weather stripping, caulking)
  • Minor repairs
  • Insulation installation
  • Heating/cooling system repairs or replacements
  • Exterior Door replacement

(Note: Items based on funding availability)

If I am selected for the program what is my commitment?

Participants must provide access to energy bills for at least one year and cannot receive weatherization services again for 15 years. This program is at no cost to qualified homeowners.

How is the SJHP Program funded?

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and administered by Florida Commerce. The application process is primarily for verifying eligibility based on income and demographics.
