SJHP Volunteer Spotlight: First Christian Church Salem, VA

Volunteers from First Christian Church Salem, Virgina, spent their Spring Break in the Nation’s Oldest City, generously offering their time and labor to help others.

Many residents face unexpected financial challenges or declining health, making it difficult to maintain their homes. The youth group answered the call. During their visit, they contributed by building a ramp and painting homes for the St. Johns Housing Partnership (SJHP).

Youth groups from First Christian Church Salem have been volunteering since 2002.

They also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity St. Augustine/St. Johns County and took children from the Homeless Coalition St Johns County on a trip to the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum.

“These young volunteers inspire us every year with their commitment and service, a tradition that has continued for over two decades. We are truly grateful for their generosity and dedication,” said SJHP Executive Director Bill Lazar.

The group of 13 teens, aged 14 to 17, and seven adults including Pastor Dan Netting, were part of the church’s youth mission program and worked all year to raise funds to finance their week of service with St. Johns Housing Partnership.
